Speeches

Over the past few weeks, we have been writing speeches. Our aim was to try persuade our audience. We had a variety of topics including:
  • We need to look after the environment.
  • Why I am the best person for the job.
  • The best animal is...
  • We should stop hunting animals.

Today the Middle and Junior Rooms presented these speeches in front of parents, the Senior Room and Miss Ward. It was a very nerve-racking experience having to stand up in front of a lot of people and speak. Leading up to today we had practiced using loud clear voices, making eye contact with our audience and having good posture while speaking. Even though many people were nervous, everyone did extremely well and enjoyed the experience.

Speeches

Today we presented our speeches to our family and friends in the church. We have been working hard on these speeches for a few weeks and have put a lot of effort into them. We chose the topic of 'my special place'. We focused on having an introduction that hooks the audience in. To do this we made the reader guess where our special place was by giving clues. During the week we have been practising the delivery of our speeches. Some of the things we had to remember were having a loud clear voice, making eye contact with the audience, standing still and using expression. We all did such a great job at presenting our speeches, even though we had a few nerves! The teachers were very impressed.

Here are some photos of us presenting our speeches.

Morning Programme
We just love doing Morning Programme in the Middle Room.  This happens four mornings a week and three or four people are on each day.  They have to talk about a certain topic.  This term we are doing mini speeches and we have a choice of topics to talk about.  Morning Programme is a great oral language programme that allows us to practice all the things you need to do when talking in front of a group of people.  We give each other feedback too and we are really good at doing this! Morning Programme is great practice for us too as for writing we are doing speeches this term!

Check out some photos from Morning Programme...
