Maths - Numeracy
We just love doing maths in the Middle Room!  At the moment we are learning about Multiplication and Division.  There are four maths groups in our class and Miss Ward takes two and Miss Chapman takes two.  We use materials with the maths strategies we learn about as this helps us for a start to understand new things.  Then we have to work out problems using the new strategy we have been taught, in our heads.  This is called imaging.

Here are some photos of us hard at work in maths:

The Totallies working with Miss Ward using materials to help them share equally.

More equal sharing!

We are having a fantastic first week back at school! Term 3 is looking like it will be another busy one. It was great to see the children back refreshed from their holidays and ready to start learning! We have been on the go this week getting back into our routines and the swing of things. Check out all the fantastic learning we have been doing!

Space Week!
Today we shared our Explain Everythings and Book Creators that we made about our fruit aliens. There were some neat stories created and Miss Ward and Mrs Ramsay are so impressed with how well everyone's skills are developing with technology. The Junior and Middle Room children worked really well together and have been extremely engaged all week for our space activities. Well done everyone!

Check out some photos of us sharing our work on the Apple TV, below:

Our TV!
Miss Ward and Miss Chapman have started to use the TV in our class to teach lessons to groups through.  They plan their lessons on their iPads on an app called Notability.  This replaces using modelling books.  Then they mirror their iPads through the Apple TV and the lesson comes up on the TV for the group to see.  This is one way the TVs are being used in classrooms, it is very cool!  The children in the groups also use the iPad to write answers on or brainstorm ideas,  just like they use to do in a modelling book.

Check out the photos below of Miss Ward teaching one of her numeracy groups through it:

The Addies maths group using materials with their maths lesson on the TV.

Cooper and George using number tiles to help with their maths lesson today.  The lesson was completed through the TV.

Here is what part of the lesson looked like.  The app used to make lessons is called Notability.  In this app you can import photos and annotate over top of photos, it is very cool!

Miss Ward explaining maths to George and Cooper.  George is waiting patiently to answer a question.

Techy Kids in the Middle Room!
We are lucky in our school to have 50 inch TVs in our classes that are on wheels.  We attach our Apple TV boxes to these TVs so that we can mirror any work we are doing or have completed through the big television.  This allows us to show our work to the rest of the class and our teachers. Miss Ward and Miss Chapman also use the TV to show us things through and they are using google docs like a whiteboard for things like brainstorms.  They type onto a document and we can all see what they are typing on the TV.
Soon Miss Ward and Miss Chapman will be using their iPads to teach lessons to us through the Apple TV.  How cool is that?! Our class is becoming very techno-savvy with having five desktop computers, two Apple laptops and seven iPads.  Miss Ward has given us the opportunity to even do our homework online through our google accounts which is really neat.  We are going to be doing more and more online through our google accounts and we have started off this term by doing writing online which adds to some of  our reading work we do online.  It is choice to be a student in the middle room, we are learning lots about technology!!

We are having an open morning at school later this term so people can come in and see how we use all our awesome technology.  Watch this space for a date and time...!

Check out some photos of the new TVs:

Here is the TV on wheels in our classroom.  It has the Apple TV box attached to it.  The Apple TV box is a small black box that sits on the top of the TV and is plugged into the TV so that we can mirror anything from an Apple device like an iPad, laptop or iPhone.

Julienne is using the TV to present her morning programme through.

Bree, Iara and Taylor standing in front of the TV as it mirrors an Explain Everything (iPad app creator) about our recent school Hangi.

It's pretty cool to be in our class!
