South Otago Cross Country

Today was the South Otago cross country held in Clinton. Lucy, Brayden, James D, George, Maddie, James L, Bree C, Esther, Taylor, Caitlyn, Freya, Libby and Ryan all went and represented Waiwera South School. Everyone gave their best efforts and ran extremely well. Some of these students will now compete in the Otago cross country next Friday in Dunedin.

Small Schools Cross Country

Today was the annual Small Schools Cross Country in Clinton. The sun was shining and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was awesome to see everyone having a go and trying their hardest. We also saw great sportsmanship and support from Waiwera students which was fantastic to see. Thanks to all the parents who came down to support the students and good luck to all those selected for next week's South Otago cross country.

Cross Country

For the last couple of weeks, we have been practicing for the cross country. Everyone will make their way around a map of the South Island and then the North Island for each lap of the block that they run. When a certain destination is reached, such as Christchurch, children will earn awards.

It is great to see the fantastic effort everyone is putting into their training.

The Small Schools Cross Country will take place on Wednesday the 16th of August in Clinton.

Well done George!
We are very proud of George!
George was the first student in our school to receive a gold medal for his cross country training. To get a gold medal he reached milestones of Copper 1, Copper 2, Bronze and Silver with his training. George ran all the way around the South Island, starting at Clinton and getting back to Clinton in approximately five weeks. He ran 5 or 6 laps of the block every day with one lap being 720 metres. This means he has run a total of 37.4km because there were 52 dashes to get back to Clinton on the map of the South Island, with one dash meaning one lap of the block had been run.
Well done George, this is an amazing achievement and to be the first person in our school to do this makes it even more special! He is now onto Platinum award aims, with beginning to run around the North Island!

Way to go George!

Friday August 7th

Friday!
Today we worked with the year 5 & 6 children and the Junior Room.  Miss Ward taught us how to use PicCollage on the iPads and in pairs or groups of three, we made advertisements for the Small Schools Cross Country that is on next Wednesday.  We really enjoyed working together and Miss Ward was really impressed with how focused we were!  Keep an eye on the school Facebook page for some of the advertisements we made, as we had to vote for the top six to go on the page (one a day), leading up to the Cross Country on Wednesday!

Check out the photos below of us working together and some of the advertisements!
