Haunted House Writing/Art
Last week we did a Halloween related activity. We created some art to go alongside our writing. The first part was painting the sky. We started with a white circle for the moon and then added either purple or blue paint each ring around the moon, making it darker each time. We then cut out a house silhouette and stuck them onto our painted sky background. Some of us added birds, trees, tombstones and even witches to add to the effect of the Haunted House! Now we needed some writing to go alongside our art. We had to use some persuasive writing to try and sell our houses. Our aim was to try turn the negatives into positives. There were some really fantastic pieces of writing and our art work looks very effective up on the wall!
Welcome to Waiwera South Primary School's Middle Room blog! We are 19 enthusiastic, positive learners in years 3, 4 and 5.

Art Day
Last Friday the whole school had an Art Day! The students completed monster art using bright pastels and dye to go up in the foyer. We also started some collaborative tree art using paint. Check out some photos of the children busy at work.

Kiwi Art
A couple of weeks ago the Middle and Junior Room students were with Miss Ward and we did some art. We were drawing Kiwis for our art since our inquiry topic is Kiwiana. Miss Ward said to make them big like a watermelon and not small like the size of a normal human hand because we wanted them to stand out. After we did the body and coloured it in, we had to draw some stars to make it look like night time. Then we would go to the dying table and dye the background black for the night time. Check out our Kiwi drawings down below!!!

Inquiry
This term for inquiry the focus is Hui-Ako- a performance which will be held in Balclutha at the end of the term. We have been looking into Myths and Legends. We have focused on one book called Hatupatu and the Birdwoman. In groups, we were working on re-telling this story. This helped us work on our key competency of participating and contributing. We have also been experimenting with some drama and practicing our freeze frames which were quite tricky for some of us. We also had to draw a picture of our interpretations of the bird woman. It was interesting to see everyone's different ideas and imaginations coming through in the drawings.

Check out some of the photos below of us doing out art, can you work out from the title, what our 2D art might be about?!
Watch this space for the finished products...!
