Pull Apart Afternoon
Last week at the working bee, there was a big clean out of some cupboards in the school with some old electrical equipment being found. This gave us the idea of having a 'Pull Apart Afternoon'. We invited students to bring along any old electrical items to 'pull apart'. This initiative tied in nicely with our current technology unit. There was lots of banging, smashing and pulling at our afternoon of pulling things apart. The students had a great time and found out how things worked with there being lots of great discussion around how and why things work.

See some photos below of our afternoon:

Getting into the hard drive!

Technology
We have been busy completing our technology unit with the Junior Room. Our unit was around following the technology process to create a finished product, which was a christmas card. We did lots of learning about what cards are most effective and put lots of thought into the planning and design of our cards before we made them.

Here are some photos of us working on our cards:

Rugby World Cup Poetry
Today for writing we did All Black poetry.  The poems we did were acrostic, which is when we took their first name and made up a sentence to go with each letter of their name.  We are doing poetry for writing at the moment.

Exploring with Mixing Colours!!
We are looking at George Seurat's artworks. He was well known for painting with dots. Before we start our own artworks using his style we have explored mixing paints. We found it interesting learning that red, yellow and blue are primary colours. We then had a go at mixing these primary colours to see what we got. These colours are called secondary colours. We can't wait to get started on our own dotty artworks!!!

Busy mixing colours!

More colour mixing!

We enjoyed learning what primary and secondary colours were!

We have been learning about patterns. We were creating towers with cubes by following guidelines. Then we had to try and spot a pattern to help us know how many cubes we would need.
Here are a few photos of us working in our groups:

Algebra - Maths
We are learning about Algebra in maths at the moment.  Today we looked at patterns and how to work out what object comes next in a pattern and later on in a pattern without actually having to make the pattern.  We used the New World minis to help us with patterns.

Here are some photos of us learning about Algebra patterns:

Everyone is eager to learn about patterns!

Having a look at the pattern Miss Ward has made.

Everyone is eager to answer the questions about the mini's patterns!

So many minis to make patterns with!

A pattern we started.  We worked out what would be in the pattern at certain numbers like 10, 14, 20, 52.

Middle Block - Thursday
In the Middle Room we do lots of work online, in our google drives. Google drives are a bit like a desk, they need to be kept tidy with work in the correct folders. Today we spent some time tidying our folders. We had three expert 'drive tidiers' who checked drives of the people in our class, making sure they were tidy with also helping show people what their drives should like. These experts were Georgia, Iara and Courtney. They wore their vests and were available to help with drives and check them when asked by other class members. This job was built into the middle block of the day, where we could sort our drives at any time we liked as we built our own timetable for this part of the day. We had to complete some reading activity work, do play practice, do some maths work and get our drives tidy. We could do this in any order we like. In the Middle Room we love planning our own parts of the day!

George tidies up his drive while Courtney watches on.
