Report Writing - term two 2015
In writing we are learning how to write reports.  With Miss Chapman we are doing information reports and with Miss Ward we are doing current events reports.  This week with Miss Ward we talked about the purpose of newspapers.  In groups we looked through a different newspaper each to see what they had in them.  We then discussed what some of these things are that newspapers have for example real estate, family notices, national, international and regional news.  Check out what we found some newspapers below had:

Southland Times
- sports news
- things for sale
- family notices
- national news
- international news
- local news
- weather
- business news
- farming from New Zealand news
- comments and opinions
- puzzles
- racing news
- classifieds

Otago Daily Times
- local news (regions)
- travel news
- diversions
- sport and racing news
- family notices
- classifieds
- weather
- sports news
- national news
- international news
- things for sale:  advertising

Clutha Leader
- local sport
- local news
- real estate
- advertising

Otago/Southland Farmer
- advertising
- sports news
- opinions
- jobs
- classifieds
- market place
- local news
- farm news

The Ensign - Gore
- local news
- fundraisers
- advertising
- school information
- real estate
- sports news

We noticed that the smaller papers like the Clutha Leader have less in them than the bigger papers like the Otago Daily Times.

Here are some photos of us doing the above activity in our groups:

Chloe, Iara and Cooper searching through The Ensign.

Nic, Courtney and Esther with the Southland Times.

Taylor, Bree and James with the Clutha Leader.

Tayden, Georgia and Maddie with Otago/Southland Farmer.

George, Savannah and Julienne with the Otago Daily Times.

Recount Writing - Term One 2015
Last term we learnt how to write recounts for writing.  Miss Ward showed us how to make iTrailers on our new iPads and we wrote a recount about that.

Some of the features we learnt a recount needs are:
- personal feelings.
- to be written in the correct order.
- to use good time connectives like after, firstly, secondly, then etc.
- to use paragraphs when we wrote about a new point.
- that they need important information only, no waffling!

Check out some of our finished writing below.  We used google docs to publish our recounts and learnt how to import photos and change font colours and size.  Lots of learning happening all in one!

You can come into our class and see everyone's completed writing on the 'Wonderful Writing' wall!

Making iTrailers
On Tuesday the 3rd of March 2015, the middle room learnt how to make iTrailers using iPads.  Firstly Miss Ward showed us how to make an iTrailer. She mirrored it on the apple Tv through the activboard so we could all see how to do it.  Miss Ward took some photos of us on the ipad to use on her iTrailer.

After that we had to take some of our own photos and we had to make them into an iTrailer.  My buddy was Bree because we had to work in pairs.  We took photos of the tyre swing, the Waiwera South school sign and the high jump,  the junior room, the senior room, the new playground, the school garden and the blue bars. The photos had to match the writing we put on our iTrailers so it would make sense.  It was exciting to take photos!

Later we went inside and started to make our iTrailer.  It was awesome to learn how to make an iTrailer, you even got free music!  After everyone had finished their iTrailers we showed them to the class. We thought they were cool and wonderful iTrailers because they had really cool photos and music and everyone had done a great job.

        Making iTrailers

On Tuesday March 3rd 2015, Miss Ward showed us how to make iTrailers on our brand new iPads.

Firstly she showed us how to make it on the activboard. I was feeling excited about this.
Next I went with Cooper to make an iTrailer about Waiwera South Primary School. We had to make this iTrailer to show the class.

After we learnt how to make the itrailers, we went outside and took photos of our cool school. We had to write information about our photos that talked about our school. Once we had finished everyone showed the class  their iTrailers.  It was really cool looking at everyone’s iTrailers.

I am looking forward to using the iTrailer app again.  It was really good and I was awesome at making them.

Making iTrailers
On Tuesday the third  of March the middle room sat down to see what Miss Ward was doing.  She showed us how to make iTrailers. She showed us different kind of movies. Miss Ward  made a scary  iTrailer so we could learn how to make one ourselves.

After that we learnt how to make them, we got into buddies and it was our turn to make a iTrailer.  My buddy was Courtney.

First we had to go outside and take photos of the school.  We took  some magnificent photos of our school.  Courtney and I did heaps of writing and put the photos in the iTrailer app.  We made a scary iTrailer.   The typing we did matched the photos and talked about what was in the photo.

After we made our  iTrailers we showed them to the class on the Activboard using the Apple TV.  Courtney and I went second.  It was good to see everyone’s iTrailers.  Our theme made me a bit scared because it was a creepy theme!

It was awesome learning how to make iTrailers and i cant wait to do it again.

Making iTrailers
Yesterday Miss Ward showed us how to make an iTrailer using our brand new iPads. First she took some photos of us using the iPad. She did this so she could use them to make the iTrailer.  After she showed us how to make the iTrailer using the Apple TV, I was feeling really excited about making one.

We were feeling really excited then we went outside to make our iTrailer .
We took photos of the school itself, the pool, playground, the bus stop, children working in class and the three classes.

When we made our iTrailer, what we wrote in the captions had to match the photos or else our iTrailer didn't make sense.  We got some really good photos that made ours interesting.  Maddie was a great partner to work with and we got finished first.  The groups of 2 each showed us their iTrailer on the Apple TV connected to the activboard.  Everyone did a really good job.

I enjoyed watching the different iTrailers.  They were all really good and I've already done an iTrailer on my dog for morning programme.

iTrailers!
On Tuesday March 3rd, the middle room made iTrailers.  The middle room made iTrailers to learn how to use this app on the new mini iPads.

Firstly Miss Ward showed us how to make an iTrailer mirroring this on the Apple TV.  Miss Ward took photos of us and the middle room to put in the example iTrailer.  Next I was excited about getting to use iTrailer and what we were going to do.  Our iTrailer had to be about our fabulous school.

After that we got in to buddies to start our project.  Then we took some amazing photos to put in our trailers.  It was a nice, sunny day so we got really good photos of things around the school.  Finally we  came inside and put the photos into our iTrailer theme.  We typed words in to match the photos that were on our iTrailer.

I enjoyed making them and look forward to using this cool app again!
