Campbell's Day Out

Two weeks ago the whole school ventured to Ken and Brony Campbell's farm. We spent the day completing fun activities including kayaking, bivvy making and team building games. This was rounded off by a delicious bbq lunch and a very fun water slide into the lake. We were very fortunate to have excellent weather and it was great to see everyone and their families get together for the day. Miss Ward has created a slideshow of all the photos from this day. Thanks to Nicola and Janelle for their photos. Check out how much fun we had!

Morning Programme

Next week (Week 5) we will begin our Oral Language Programme. This is where we try to improve our listening and speaking skills through a variety of interesting tasks. To enable us to improve our Oral Language skills, we need to make sure we are well prepared each week. Ask for help, in advance if needed. We can also practice at home speaking clearly and confidently to keep it interesting. We hope to continue to see lots of improvement throughout the year. Below is the timetable for this term so children can prepare in advance.

Swimming

This week the whole school have started swimming lessons at Clinton Pool. We have groups learning lots of new skills and getting a refresher in skills learned in previous lessons. Students are learning things from floating, streamline to tumble-turns and diving! We are very lucky and thankful that we have a great facility like Clinton Pool only a short drive away! Thank you to all of our amazing parents who have been and will be helping us out. We couldn't do it without you!

Athletics/Sports Activator

We recently began our athletics training in the afternoons. Unfortunately the rain liked to keep interrupting us however we did manage to get in some practice at high jump, long jump, discus and shotput. Today our Sports Activator Greer came to help us with our athletics skills. We started with a couple of warm ups to get us ready and to practice our agility. We then spent some time working on our shotput and discuss techniques. Finally we tested our agility by running through a ladder drill. We had to make sure we had quick fast feet and move through without touching the sides. We found it quite tricky! We look forward to seeing all our hard work pay off next week at the Small Schools athletics.

Identity Taguls

As part of our getting to know us activities this term, we created taguls that tell people about us. We chose words that describe us and uploaded a photo of that the words would then form around. Some of us changed the colours and fonts as well as the backgrounds. We think they look pretty effective. Check them out below!

Class Treaty

This week we read a story called “The Treehouse Treaty’. We decided to come up with our own class treaty. The class treaty will be the basis of what our class culture is like. Together we brainstormed a list of terms that we all agreed on. We also included our school values into these rules. We then signed our names as a way of signing the treaty.
