Hui Ako costumes.

The Middle Room had the task of creating their own costumes for the Hui Ako performance on Monday. The students had a lot of input into the design and making of these costumes. Every child had to have a set of wings and a bird mask. Everyone's creativity shone through when designing their bird masks. They all looked fantastic. We all ran into a bit of trouble when making our wings. This made us do a lot of problem-solving about how we were going to make them and then attach them for our dance. In the end, they turned out really well and we received many comments about how great and colourful they were.

Check out some photos of us creating our costumes!

Cutting out our wings from frost cloth.
Big job putting paper feathers on and painting them.
Gluing on our straps so we can wear them.
Creating our masks.

Hui Ako

Today was our performance at the South Otago Hui Ako in Balclutha. Over the past term we have been working hard to prepare for this. We performed a drama based on the Maori legend, Hatupatu and the Birdwoman. It was the students responsibility to create the script, costumes and dance routines. This gave all the children great ownership. It was a big crowd today and quite daunting for the students but they all performed outstandingly. Everybody should be very proud of themselves.

Below are some of the photos from our performance today.

Black Out Day

This weekend the All Blacks are playing in Dunedin. To celebrate this the whole school had a black out day where we got to dress up in all black clothes. We even got to put black and white face paint on our faces! We got to choose our favourite All Black and sketch a picture of them. We then had to give clues for the rest of the class to work out who we had sketched. It was a quite hard but a lot of fun.

Check out some photos of us drawing our All Blacks.
