Small Schools Cross Country
Last week we went to the Small Schools Cross Country in Clinton. We trained hard for this event at school. We had a map of NZ that had heaps of dashes on it and each dash was one lap of the Waiwera block that we run around. There are different rewards at certain locations on the map. We have had to push ourselves to train hard to get the rewards. You get a certificate for getting to certain points and if you get right back to Clinton you get a gold medal! We have also been reflecting on our cross country training in class which has been really important.

Well done to George, Maddie, James and Esther who will be going to the South Otago Cross Country in Clinton this Wednesday. Good luck to you all! :)

Olveston and Toitu Whole School Trip

We had a fantastic day in Dunedin today, learning all about life in the olden days! Olveston Historic House was incredible. It was amazing to see all the antique things inside the house. Some children commented saying they thought they would quite like to live there someday! Our trip to Toitu was very interesting as well. The children went on a hunt around the museum to find transport and technology from the olden days and draw them onto their timelines. This was a great activity to see how transport and technology has changed over time. Check out the Photo Peach below Olveston and Toitu Trip on PhotoPeach.

Morning Programme

Our Oral Language programme has started again this term. Morning Programme helps us improve our skills of speaking in front of people. We are all excited for the new topics this term and have already started preparing for weeks ahead. We have been practising speaking clearly and confidently and presenting our talk in a variety of ways. Everyone is all constantly improving. Some of the topics this term include Then and Now, Olympics, Recipes and Jokes and Pranks. Check out some photos of us presenting our morning programme from the first week.

There is also a copy of the schedule for this term down below. Underneath the timetable is an explanation of the different topics if you are unsure.

Handwriting!
The Middle Room students have been busy practicing their handwriting in the afternoons with Miss Ward. Even though we do some of our work on devices, we still do lots of hand written work and it is important we practice this. All the awesome students in the Middle Room have been taking their handwriting seriously and are working on doing the very best job they can with it.

Well done and keep up the great work everyone! :)

Hui Ako costumes.

The Middle Room had the task of creating their own costumes for the Hui Ako performance on Monday. The students had a lot of input into the design and making of these costumes. Every child had to have a set of wings and a bird mask. Everyone's creativity shone through when designing their bird masks. They all looked fantastic. We all ran into a bit of trouble when making our wings. This made us do a lot of problem-solving about how we were going to make them and then attach them for our dance. In the end, they turned out really well and we received many comments about how great and colourful they were.

Check out some photos of us creating our costumes!

Cutting out our wings from frost cloth.
Big job putting paper feathers on and painting them.
Gluing on our straps so we can wear them.
Creating our masks.
The final result!

They look fantastic!

Hui Ako

Today was our performance at the South Otago Hui Ako in Balclutha. Over the past term we have been working hard to prepare for this. We performed a drama based on the Maori legend, Hatupatu and the Birdwoman. It was the students responsibility to create the script, costumes and dance routines. This gave all the children great ownership. It was a big crowd today and quite daunting for the students but they all performed outstandingly. Everybody should be very proud of themselves.

Below are some of the photos from our performance today.

Black Out Day

This weekend the All Blacks are playing in Dunedin. To celebrate this the whole school had a black out day where we got to dress up in all black clothes. We even got to put black and white face paint on our faces! We got to choose our favourite All Black and sketch a picture of them. We then had to give clues for the rest of the class to work out who we had sketched. It was a quite hard but a lot of fun.

Check out some photos of us drawing our All Blacks.

Bree and Georgia working on their masterpieces.

Taylor carefully sketching her All Black.

Julienne creating her great drawing.

I wonder who Courtney is drawing.
